In Ukraine, the last 25 years have seen the formation, alongside a brilliant galaxy of law firms, of a mature and experienced cohort of in-house lawyers who successfully facilitate the development of complicated modern business. During all this period, the relations and interaction between external and in-house lawyers were constantly evolving. They now continue their rapid development in line with current business challenges and legislative updates, as well as under the influence of globalisation processes and emerging technologies changing the conventional ways of both purchasing and providing legal service.
Our research seeks to identify the key roles of an in-house lawyer and to give an objective assessment of career prospects for in-house lawyers (counsels) at the current state of development of the legal talent market in Ukraine. It also outlines the key aspects of interaction between in-house and external lawyers and debunks long-standing myths about this position in business.
